2017 Chevy Trax – Naperville, IL
The 2017 Chevy Trax in Naperville, IL is one of those vehicles that makes you do a double take to truly appreciate what it has to offer. At first, you might think that it’s just another one of the many compact crossovers circulating through the market. But upon closer inspection, you realize that you’re dead wrong. Chevrolet introduced its pint-sized crossover in 2015 for those who wanted something smaller and less expensive than the Equinox. While many felt that Chevy’s subcompact crossover is somewhat underwhelming, the major updates it receives for the 2017 model year certainly quell any doubts. The exterior differences between the 2016 and 2017 design are significant, and the inside offers ample room for a subcompact crossover. It has plenty of standard technology features, and has also received excellent crash test scores.
More importantly, it’s worth consideration simply because it’s an affordable runabout vehicle. It’s good for getting you from point A to point B safely and efficiently, while turning heads thank to the refreshed look on the inside and out. The up-to-date technology ensures that you won’t feel like you’re driving a vehicle from the dark ages, and it’s smaller size makes it easy to drive and easy to park — especially in a city environment. As far as engine performance goes, it compliments the Trax’s city-friendly size well. When you step on the gas, it’s reasonably responsive in a city environment, and it will get you on the highway just fine.
As far as the performance of the 2017 Chevy Trax goes, you won’t be disappointed. It’s powered by a single engine, which is a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine. This engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, and puts out 138 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque. An all-wheel drive Trax LTZ model is able to go from 0-60 mph in 10 seconds flat, and a front-wheel drive model is able to achieve 60 mph in just 8.9 seconds. These are perfectly average times for a subcompact crossover SUV, so you will have no issue getting on the highway in a hurry.
As far as fuel economy goes, a front-wheel drive 2017 Trax is able to get up to 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, which equates to 28 mpg combined. For the all-wheel drive model, expect 24 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, which averages out to 27 mpg combined. Typically, all-wheel drive takes a toll on a vehicle’s fuel-efficiency. But with the Trax, it’s able to gain the capability of all-wheel drive without losing out on fuel-efficiency — unlike a lot of other vehicles.
Not to mention, it also has that type of fuel economy with the versatility offered by a subcompact crossover SUV.
For new technology features — and the 2017 Trax is loaded with technology in general — you’ll find an additional USB port, support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, which is something Chevy is diligent about when it comes to all of its vehicles – ensuring compatibility with both types of phone.
But in order to use your favorite apps like iMessage, Pandora, or Spotify you need internet connectivity. Which is why the 2017 Chevy Trax also comes with built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi, so you can stay connected with your music wherever you go. This Wi-Fi is provided by OnStar, which is a staple in Chevy’s new models. It provides advanced accident response services by automatically contacting an OnStar Advisor during the event of a collision. That Advisor will then ask if you need help, and if you don’t respond or say yes, then he or she will automatically contact emergency services and send them to your location via high-accuracy GPS.
You’ll also have technology features such as the myChevrolet Mobile App. This app allows you to turn your phone into a mobile command center for your Trax. With the tap of a finger, you’re able to do everything from start and stop the engine, to lock and unlock the doors. You’re even able to send destinations to your navigation system, and view diagnostic information about your vehicle.
Upon closer look, it’s clear that the real eye-popping quality of the 2017 Chevy Trax is its design. Like I said above, the differences between the 2016 and 2017 model are considerable. The refresh did wonders for the new Trax.
You’ll notice a new grille and headlights on the 2017 Trax, both of which bear an uncanny resemblance to the grille and headlights found on the new Spark and Sonic. It also has a sportier and more aggressive stance compared to before, thanks to the short wheelbase and overall shape of the vehicle. An aerodynamic hood meets an aerodynamic windshield, and the rear quarter panels are muscular, bulging out over the rear wheels. This also causes the taillights to stick out more on the sides and back, helping boost their visibility. With roof racks thrown on, the new Trax looks like it could be used for off-roading — even though it doesn’t actually have that capability. Rather, it’s just a convenience feature which helps support that aggressive stance.
One of the first things you’ll notice on the inside is the new instrument panel. It’s been made even more user friendly, and is laid out in such a way that everything fits together like a puzzle, and falls within your field of view even at a single glance. You don’t have to search for your mph, rpm needle, or even your gas light. It also features more chrome details compared to the previous model.
A dual-cockpit cabin design is always welcome, and makes the driver and front passenger feel like they have their own personal space bubble. Something a lot of subcompact and compact cars fail to achieve, simply because of the smaller size of the cabin. Speaking of cabin space, the Trax has a decent amount of passenger space — in the front and back — for a vehicle this size. Unfortunately, that increased passenger space means it inevitably cuts down on storage space in the trunk. To combat this, the back seats and front passenger seat all fold down to help carry supplies when you’re by yourself.
